The magnetite nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray
diffractometer, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer
and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer. X-ray diffraction pattern confirms the existence of a magnetite
phase. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopic (FE-SEM) pictures reveal that the particle size is
below 100 nm. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrum shows a band at 570 cm1 for the Fe–O bond
vibration. Vibrating Sample Magnetometric (VSM) study shows high saturation magnetization value of
60 emu/g at low applied magnetic field. Silver coated magnetite nanoparticles exhibits antibacterial
property whereas bare magnetite does not.
