Children were weighed every 6 months during the first two years of age. The prevalence of stunting based on WHO growth standards rose from birth to six months (i.e., 6% to 6.9%), and increased rapidly at 12, 18 and 24 months (i.e., 9%, 14.6%, and 16.8%, respectively).

It was speculated that low breastfeeding rates after the first year and poor hygiene related to early provision of foods and drinks could have explained this pattern.
