Low level of strictness of rules and regulations in the family which can be considered as indicating poor parental supervision was a risk factor for teenage pregnancy. This indicates the felt need of parental supervision by the teenager. This situation may be related to the reported proportion of 33% mothers ‘ever worked abroad’ usually as housemaids in countries of the Middle East which is commonly seen among low income families in Sri Lanka.
