PHILADELPHIA —A spokeswoman for Rita's Italian Ice says their "hearts and prayers" go out to the family of the 3-year-old girl killed when a security door fell on her at a Philadelphia frozen treat shop.
Police sa a metal security door detached and fell on the child at a Rita's Water Ice store in north Philadelphia. The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. in the city's Brewerytown section. They say the girl was taken to a hospital and died shortly after arrival.
Rita's spokeswoman Linda Duke says she can't comment further due to the investigation.
WPVI-TV reports the child was there with her mother, and bystanders rushed to her aid while others gave CPR. Witnesses tell the station a sorority and fraternity fundraiser was happening at the time.
