MIC breakpoints used for all antibiotics were those
recommended by the CLSI (2002, 2005). For
clindamycin, the breakpoint was taken from data
for human streptococci (not S. pneumoniae) (CLSI,
2005) considering less similarity between canine
Staphylococcus spp. and S. suis, although equal
breakpoints were defined for the two microorganisms.
The breakpoints for enrofloxacin, ceftiofur, tiamulin
and tilmicosin were based on CLSI breakpoints for
swine or bovine respiratory pathogens.
