Natural Bridges National Monument
there are a number of natural bridges in the park.
in fact, there are three natural bridges in each park.
Each of the bridge was named after a Native American group
that lived nearby. These bridges were formed over thousands
of years, when rivers eroded the soft sandstone in the park.
Eventually, a deep canyon or valley was formed. The top part
of the rock over the canyon was not washed away by the water,
so it formed a natural bridge.
in 2006, the international Dark Sky Association measured
the light in the park and found it to be almost completely dark,
a 2 on a 10-point scale. This dark sky park attracts many
visitors who enjoy watching the night sky. The natural darkness
also provides a good habitat for animals that are active
during the night.
