Several studies have identified that migrants often experience poorer quality of care in contrast to the majority population (5–8). Nurses, alongside other healthcare professionals, often lack the necessary knowledge and skills to respond to the needs of people from a different cultural background to their own (9, 10). Communication difficulties, in particular, present major
obstacles in cross-cultural care encounters, i.e. an encounter between a nurse and a patient who are from different cultural backgrounds (11–15).
