These attitudes are deeply rooted, and they indicate
that the GM debate is only an aspect of consumers’
general concern about technology in food production.
How such attitudes to food technology in general are
formed, how they are affected by information and by
product experience, and how cultural differences work
in this context—why are the Americans less concerned
about GM in food?—could generate extremely useful
information to bring the understanding of consumers
and the technological development in the food area
better in line with each other.
