Selection cuttings significantly increased shrub species
richness, tree species richness and tree species diversity
(Tables 1 and 2). The number of large-diameter trees and snags
generally decreased when compared to unmanaged stands
(Table 1), although an exception was found for Quercus suber
forests (Table 2). Selection cuttings only had a significant effect
on shrub abundance for certain forest types (Tables 1 and 2),
increasing shrub abundance for Quercus ilex and Pinus
sylvestris and decreasing shrub abundance for Pinus uncinata
and Quercus suber.
