6.3. Problems in marketing
Creation of adequate marketing opportunities and infrastructure for Naga chilli in this part of the country would help in promoting the cultivation of the crop. Since the Naga chilli has the potential to become a major crop, attempts should be made by the Government to assure reasonable pricing of the crop produce so as to make this crop more popular among the farmers.
6.4. Problems in processing and exporting
Long-term storage of Naga chilli without affecting its quality is very difficult as it deteriorates very fast due to fungal and bacterial attacks under humid conditions. Hence, it would be better to make value added products such as pickle, sauce, soup, etc. for which adequate storage and processing infrastructure are required. It is also imperative to develop appropriate post-harvest technologies for proper and fast drying of chilli without lowering its quality. The Government should prepare a strategy taking into consideration the current scenario and future opportunities as well as the marketing trends with special emphasis on participation of the private sector.
