For the theatre-going audience, certain views of dancers and the ballet,of the stage from the auditorium, are quite familiar, but degas gives us so many perspectives. However, rather than breaking the facade of fascination, these'behind the scenes'views actually only make the whole world seem more magical. For instance, the 1877 pastel over monotype dancers at the Ole Opera house shows the stahe from the wings, revealing a row of legs in battement tendue derriere.but for me at least, this glimpse just makes me want to see the whole scene from the frint,in all its glory! in degas I want a similar multiple-perspective experience for the audience, showing them elements of dance that might normally remain out of view,or behind the scenes, but in a way which certainly did not look out of place in the full view of the audience
