General Discussion:
CSF is a "list A" Office International des Epizooties (OIE) highly contagious disease of swine that results in high morbidity and mortality in peracute and acute infections.
Pigs are the only natural hosts; wild pigs can serve as source of infection for domestic pigs.
CSFV is a member of the genus Pestivirus, family Flaviviridae and is a single stranded RNA virus.
Virus is shed in urine, oronasal and lacrimal secretions, and feces.
Transmitted primarily through direct contact between swine; less often, indirect contact with fomites/mechanical vectors/aerosol or feeding virus-containing garbage; also transmitted transplacentally
