values of stiffness of the ankle muscles are insufficient
to stabilize the body. They estimated that values greater
than 1835 Nm/rad were necessary and that these values are well
above ankle stiffness values reported in the literature [26]. This
suggests that values reported in Fig. 7(b) are not sufficient to
maintain equilibrium and that equilibrium (or recovery) depends
on an active command allowing the production of a muscular
torque. Although the simulation mimics a standard postural behavior,
falling in response to a small nudge surely represents a
small percentage of the falls suffered by the obese.
