(Fig. 2). Assuming that 1 g of dry matter equals roughly 10 g of wet
matter, a smaller serving of 25 g of mushrooms would contain
100 lg of D2, the upper daily limit considered safe by Health Canada.
A regular serving of up to 100 g would suffice to fill the endogenous
storage tissues for a week. A general trend towards higher
recommended daily intake, at least for certain groups of the population,
is observed. The advocates of this opinion suggest that
reducing the risk of preventable disease requires a higher level of
vitamin D than that recommended previously
