The clinical leader developed a clear view of himself as a leader, of himself as part of the nursing team and in relation to other team members, and of himself as a clinical leader within the organization. The changed vision was mainly manifested in that the head nurse tried to communicate his vision by discussing the leadership style and by making it clear that nurses are responsible for solving concrete problems. However, conversations between the head nurse and nursing team indicated that the nurses were confronted with the impact of leadership development without really understanding the underlying vision.
