It is argued that individuals with better
social capital earn higher rates of return on
their human capital. The literature does
point to the finding that where an individual
develops networks and contacts within their
own organisation they are more visible to
superiors who will be aware of their
individual achievements. These individuals
have better social capital than those who
only network with other peers (Boxman et
al., 1991; Burt, 1992; Jenkins, 1988).
