The applicable types of error control methods relate to the allowed startup and end-to-end latency of the application as
well as to the presence of feedback from the recipients to the sender. Interactive error correction, e.g. retransmission, is
typically used in unicast streaming, where retransmission requests do not cause an explosion of feedback traffic and the
startup latency requirement is relaxed. Video telephony applications typically use interactive error concealment to stop
temporal error propagation efficiently. Any types of applications can use forward error correction, while this error
control method is the most important means for error control in broadcast and multicast applications. Finally, error detection and concealment by post-processing should be used in all recipients operating in error-prone environments.
