PGF and PGE2 present in culture medium ofendometrial explants is derived from de novo synthesisof PG during culture (Thatcher et al., 1984). Endometriummaintained at 39#{176}C synthesized and releasedprostaglandins primarily during the first 3 h ofincubation (Fig. 7). Concentrations of PGE2 detectedin culture medium of thermoneutral endometriumincreased throughout culture, resulting in higher(pend of culture. Prior to heat stress, secretion ofprostaglandins by endometrial tissues was similar tothat by thermoneutral control tissues (heat stress vs.thermoneutral, PGF: 3.4 ± 0.5 vs. 2.8 ± 0.5; PGE2:2.5 ± 0.5 vs. 4.1 ± 1.5 pg/ml/mg tissue/6 h). Elevationof incubation temperature from 39#{176to} 43#{176}Cstimulatedendometrial PGF release, resulting in a 125 5%increase (p<0.01) in concentrations detected inculture medium. Concentrations of PGE2 were notaffected significantly by heat stress. As a result,
