Means and standard deviation for all predictor variables are presented in Table 1. On average, laxness and over reactivity scores were similar to those found in previous studies, and generally fell between clinic and non-clinic groups. Thirty-seven percent of the children came from single parent households, and most of these children were from the low-SES, African American or Perto Rican communities. There were no significant differences between ethnic groups in social support. Overall, African American and Puerto Rican parents had similar levels of involvement, which were significantly lower than the involvement of the higher SES European American parents. Parents from all ethnic group generally exhibited average levels of depression relative to normative samples.
