Recently we received some atypical cultures of Sporothrix
recovered from a clinical case as well as from environmental
origins in Vi~na del Mar, Chile .
Morphological and molecular research suggested that
an undescribed taxon was concerned. The aim of the present
study was to characterize these atypical Sporothrix isolates
using a polyphasic approach incorporating
morphology, virulence and multigene data to recognize
species boundaries among phylogenetically related species,
and to develop diagnostic barcodes for the species
concerned.
