• Albuquerque and Santa Fe are national and international travel destinations and are in close proximity to Taos. The appeal of these communities has overshadowed Taos and many of the leisure visitors to the area have considered Taos only as a day trip.
• Having competing interests and lack of a consistent message for Taos hurts the overall impression of Taos in a visitors’ mind.
• There is a relatively small annual budget for marketing Taos. Print and electronic advertising is traditionally very expensive, especially in election years. (Gubernatorial, Congressional & Presidential races in June, November ’08).
