Zinc barbiturate was conveniently prepared by a precipitation
method in aqueous solution and was characterized by elemental
analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry
and FTIR spectroscopy. ZnL2 as a co-stabilizer with calcium
stearate gives excellent thermal stabilizing effect for rigid PVC.
Compared with CaSt2/ZnSt2 stabilizers, CaSt2/ZnL2 stabilizers
exhibits better synergistic stabilizing effect in mass ratios ranging
from 0.3/1.2 to 0.6/0.9. Dibenzoyl methane was introduced into
CaSt2/ZnL2 stabilizers as an auxiliary stabilizer, to further improve
the thermal stability of PVC. Both stability time and induction time
of PVC samples can be prolonged effectively using the thermal
stabilizer composed of 1.2/0.3 CaSt2/ZnL2 and 0.3 g DBM.
