Environmental I mpact Assessment (EIA): The conduct of an EIA involves
evaluating and predicting the likely impacts of a project (including cumulative
impacts) on the environment during construction, commissioning, operation
and abandonment. I t also includes designing appropriate preventive, mitigating and enhancement measures addressing these consequences to
protect the environment and the community s welfare. 2. I nitial Environmental Examination (IEE): An IEE is embodied by a document
similar to the EIA document, but with reduced details and depth of
assessment and discussion. I t can either consists of an IEE report (expanded
IEE) or a simplified checklist to be filled up by the proponent to identify and
assess a project s environmental impacts and the mitigation/ enhancement
measures to address such impacts, depending on the magnitude of the
project. 3. Project Description: The Project Description is a document that describes the
nature, configuration, use of raw materials and natural resources, production
system, waste or pollution generation and control and the activities of a
proposed project. I t includes a description of the use of human resources as
well as activity timelines.
