In a
prospective double-blind randomised trial, patients were
assigned to receive as their cardiopulmonary bypass
pump prime fluid either Haemaccel 500 mL and Ringer’s 1
L or Plasma-lyte 148 1500 mL. The Haemaccel-Ringer’s
group developed hyperchloraemic acidosis whereas the
Plasma-lyte group did not.
