Similar to observations for TSS and CBOD, NH3 levels in the present study were significantly higher in STS effluent; however, NO2 levels were not significantly different among MTP, ATS, and STS effluents (p < 0.05) (Table 2). Though NO3 levels in MTP and STS were not significantly different (p < 0.05), ATS effluent contained significantly higher NO3 levels (p > 0.05; Table 2). Thus, with the exception of these NO3 observations, effluent water quality from ATS and MTP systems were generally comparable, based on Tier I parameters evaluated in the present study. It is important to note, however, that nutrient loadings from point and non-point source effluent are often accompanied by other contaminants, which may present risks to aquatic life uses
