Health and well-being
Health is multifactorial in nature and includes dimensions of the physical, mental and social, and some might argue the ‘spiritual’. It involves enhancement of well-being as well as absence of disease. High positive health is sometimes referred to as ‘wellness’ or high level well-being. This is positive physical and emotional well-being with a high capacity for enjoying life and challenges, and possessing adequate coping strategies in the face of diffi-culties. Negative health is characterised by disease, morbidity and possibly premature death (Bouchard and Shephard 1994)
