Police arrested a 47 year old woman from Chiang Rai with 9,400 methamphetamine tablets in her bag on the bus from Chiang Mai to Bangkok on February 23, 2015.
Lamphun Police had set up a checkpoint and signaled the bus to pull over. Upon boarding the bus they found Nalipo Sermue acting suspiciously. They searched her belongings and found 47 bags containing a total of 9,400 Yaba pills.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Prayat Boonsri, Deputy Commander of Police Region 5 siad that this was the fourth arrest of drug smugglers at this particular checkpoint so far this year. He was joined by Pol. Col. Nalichit Niewkul, deputy commander of Lamphun Police, Charoenrit Sa-nguansat, Deputy Governor of Lamphun at the press conference to announce the arrest.
The suspect confessed to police that she had been paid 20,000 baht to carry the drugs to Mo Chit Bus Terminal in Bangkok. The street value of the drugs if sold in Bangkok was over 2 million baht.
