One of the major findings from this
study was the observation that a lower proportion of
diffuse alveolar damage was found in patients who
underwent autopsies in the past decade (2001–2010)
compared to those in the initial decade of 1991–2000 [32].
Patients in the more recent cohort in the past ten years
were more likely ventilated with a lung-protective strategy
in comparison to the patients who underwent autopsy
from 1991 to 2000
