The collection of extracted lipids into a fresh vial every 20-min
intervals facilitated the evaluation of FAME composition as a function
of time interval (Table 1). The observed changes in the FAME
proportions of the post-methylated lipids as a function of
extraction duration (the absence of C18:2 before 20 min and the
disappearance of C16:1 after 40 min) suggest a possible timefacilitated
variation of SCCO2 selectivity (Ozkal et al., 2005; Pourmortazavi
and Hajimirsadeghi, 2007; Soares et al., 2007). However,
the variation in fatty acid solubilities appeared rather fractionspecific
and no correlation based on chain length or degree of
unsaturation can yet be identified. In agreement with Andrich
et al. (2006) who performed SCCO2 extraction on Spirulina platensis,
no meaningful difference was found in the overall FAME composition
of lipids extracted at 60 and 80 C
