In the electromagnetic spectrum, the microwave radiation
region is located between infrared radiation and radio
waves. Microwaves have wavelengths of 1 mm–1 m, corresponding
to frequencies between 0.3 and 300 GHz. Telecommunication
and microwave radar equipment occupy
many of the band frequencies in this region. In general,
in order to avoid interference, the wavelength at which
industrial and domestic microwave apparatus intended
for heating operates is regulated to 12.2 cm, corresponding
to a frequency of (2.245 ± 0.05) GHz, but other frequency
allocations do exist.
