This study tested a hypothesized model linking
hospitalized cancer patients’ health status, nursing care
quality, perceived individuality in care and trust in nurses
in a sample of patients with various cancer types receiving
care as inpatients in Finland, Cyprus, Greece and Sweden.
To date the associations between these concepts were only
partially explored in the relevant literature, whilst some remained unexplored. To the best of our knowledge this is
the first study where the potential relationships between
these four concepts are tested. In the final model (with
patient characteristics removed), nursing care quality and
perceived individuality on care mediated the effects of the
health status factor on patients’ reports of trust in nurses.
In this European sample nursing care quality was directly
affected by health status scores, and was the strongest
relationship in all the studied factors and these results
supportthe associations found in previous studies
