And here is another key: If we want our work to be blessed by God, we must exceed what is expected of us. This is another principle of success; not meeting expectations at work, but exceeding expectations at work. I love what the Bible says in Colossians 3:22 (MSG): “Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best.”God wants us to go beyond normal, beyond average. He wants us in the workplace to be the best. This is the kind of work that God wants to bless. Do we agree that followers of Jesus Christ should have the best reputation for the quality of work? Of course, we do, because we represent the Lord of lords. Our work should be done with such excellence that everybody notices because we represent the King of kings. In Matthew 5:41 (NJB), Jesus talked about this principle of exceeding what is expected of us at work. He says this: “If anyone requires you to go one mile, go two miles with him.” That is “the go-the-extra-mile principle.”
