For the execution of a FMEA and all other forms of risk assessment the scope of the
assessment should be established first. Therefore, the technique of process mapping
as described earlier is helpful. Initially, the respective overall process structure
should be displayed and then subdivided (generally on multiple levels) into further
detailed sub-processing steps. The description is mainly used to map the
process to be analyzed and its interfaces. Furthermore, structuring the processes
on different levels enables classification according to level of detail and possible
influence exerted.
