A 59-year-old man was in custody today on suspicion of shooting and killing his wife at the Sylmar home they lived in for at least 25 years, police said.
The 45-year-old victim was shot multiple times around 9 p.m. Monday at the housse in the 14000 block of Herron Street, Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Paul Vernon said.
Maria Morales was found in the living room. She died at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
The shooting was reported by the couple’s son.
The suspect was found lying on a mattress in a bedroom, with a loaded .45-caliber Colt pistol on a nearby table and a handwritten note next to it. His name was not immediately released. The suspect told officers he had been drinking heavily, Vernon said.
