The aim of this study was to explore the genetic resources
available at the NNSGR to enable the breeding of RSD-resistant
sugarcane varieties and to improve the efficiency of germplasm
screening. In 2009, 2010 and 2011, we selected 137 core germplasms
preserved in the NNSGR to detect natural Lxx carriage using
PCR. After artificial inoculation, the 21 germplasms that tested
negative for RSD in 2009 and 2010 were then subjected to Lxx
detection by PCR in 2011 and 2012. The resistance of these core
germplasms to RSD was evaluated and scored based on the results
of RSD detection in both naturally infected and artificially inoculated
test materials.
