It must be put in clear term here that the growth of various Hinduised Kingdoms both in mainland Southeast Asia and in the islands, grew under the local headmen and native rulers as a result of the Pacific penetration and a gradual infiltration by means of trade and not by large scale Indian migration. It was not a case of political colonisation. The Indian idea of kinship with its adjunct administrative paraphernalia were definitely borrowed and a number of Idianised States grew in the area. It was out of needs of these Indianised States and Kings of Sotheast Asia that a BRahmanic Conquest of the Sotheast seas took place. The rulers of these states in order to cater to their various regal needs welcomed the influx of Brahmanic gentry and they came with the traders and colonised the reakms of culture and religion, in the broader sense of the two terms, and the impact of the Indian civilization is very much appearance.
