Normally in medical laboratories only the analytical proficiency is observed and appreciated. Mediaand television support this view. The laboratory information system (LIS), a guarantee for the data management, is noted only in
rare cases and operates silently in the background. LISs were introduced into clinical chemistry in the 1970s and have become an integral part of laboratory life, so that it is not possible to imagine a medical laboratory without a LIS. It is the basis for proper sample acquisition, supply of analytical results from the measurement systems, medical reporting and billing. In addition, it is responsible for any external test facilities and archiving of the samples. Although continual improvements are made there is a growing number of people (laboratory personal, clients) calling for a better, more powerful and contemporary
