Later China's Li Hongli made a clean sweep in the men's 77kg category winning the snatch, clean and jerk and combined to underline his country's rising stature in the sport.
The day belonged to Pawina though as she erased the previous snatch, clean and jerk and combined marks to etch her name in the annals of the sport with an overpowering performance that simply left her rivals gasping in awe.
Pawina, who incidentally won the gold medal at the Athens Olympics in the 75kg category despite weighing only 69 kilos, brought down her weight by six kilos to make the 63kg group at the World Championships and going by her show on Saturday she must be perfectly pleased with her decision.
She gave enough notice of her prowess when she snatched 116 kilos with her final lift to beat Belarussian Hanna Batsiushka's world record of 115 kilos set at the Athens Olympics last year.
In the clean and jerk, the Thai girl hoisted 140 kilos with her second attempt to ensure the second-placed Svetlana Shimkova's world record of 139 kilos lasted only a few minutes.
Shimkova had beaten the mark of 138 kilos set by Ukrainian Nataliya Skakun at the last World Championships in Vancouver.
The previous world record of 247 kilos in the combined stood in the name of Liu Xia but Pawina's dream performance in the snatch and clean and jerk ensured she beat that mark by a whopping nine kilos.
As a result of Pawina's dominance, Shimkova and Liu finished second and third respectively in the snatch, clean and jerk and in the combined.
Li, meanwhile, dominated the men's 77kg category and his combined lift of 361 kilos was eight kilos better than the silver winner Sebastian Dogariu of Romania, who totalled 353 kilos.
Sufyan Abbas, one of Qatar's Bulgarian imports, took the third place with a combined heave of 351.
Although Li's domination was never in doubt there was a keen tussle for the second and third places between Abbas, Dogariu, Nuaru's Peter Yukio and German Rene Hoch in the clean and jerk section.
In the event Yukio, a multiple Oceania champion, heaved 193 kilos and Hoch registered 192 for the second and third spot respectively in the clean and jerk.
Qatar's Abbas stretched himself to the limit in a bid to overtake everyone by going for 201 kilos with his third attempt after failing to hoist 196 in his second try, but couldn't muster up the strength and dropped the barbell.
He finished third in the snatch and total.
