research into leadership has shown that leaders
who can understand and explain the ‘what’,
‘how’ and ‘why’ of a change can help colleagues
overcome their anxiety about the changes that
are occurring (Cicmil 1999). To develop team
members’ understanding and skill base for the
implementation of the handover form, the leader
would require training in effective communication
and how to complete the form. he or she would
then pass on this knowledge to other members of
the team, ensuring the costs of implementation of
the handover form were kept to a minimum
