Curriculum alignment refers to the practice of basing instructional activities
and assessment on the objectives of instruction (English & Steffy, 2001;
Neidermeyer & Yelon, 1981; Wiggins, 1998). Neidermeyer and Yelon (1981)
stressed the importance of aligning instruction and assessment with the
objectives of a program in order to increase mastery of the objectives and to
provide valid measurement of their attainment. Curriculum alignment is also
strongly emphasized in the instructional design models of Dick et al. (2001)
and Sullivan and Higgins (1983).
