Predictive performance
Simulated maize and legume grain yields generally approximated
the observed yields from the 2012–2013 and 2013–2014 growing seasons
(Fig. 1). While maize yields were sometimes under-predicted,
the model captured the direction and relative magnitude of maize
yield responses to N fertilization and legume introduction at all sites.
In most cases, the model also captured the response of groundnut and
soybean to intercropping with pigeonpea. The sole exception concerns
soybean at Lintipe where field observations show suppression of soybean
when intercropped with pigeonpea, while the model does not
show suppression of soybean.
