A Bangkok- Sungai Kolok train was attacked with a powerful bomb in Pattani, killing a railway official, and injuring three, including a station master.
The incident happened near the Baan Nikom Khok Pho railway station in Khok Pho district at 5.30pm.
According to witnesses and police, the 50-kilo home-made bomb was planted under the tracks and exploded as the No 176 train from Bangkok to Sungai Kolok was arriving near the railway station.
The blast ripped apart the rear of the last bogie where train officials providing service on the train normally seated.
The explosion killed a railway official Chavalit Kongpan and injured the Baan Khok Pho railway station master standing nearby the last bogie.
The southern train was delayed as officials have to await workers to detach the badly damaged bogie from the train.
Security officials were checking CCTV at the station to hunt down the attackers who triggered the bomb by remote control.
