All animals were tested for antibodies against SRLVs using three commercial kits: Caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus (CAEV)-IDG p28 AGID (Pourquier); Pourquier-ELISA Maedi-Visna/CAEV Serum Verification iELISA (Pourquier); and CAEV Antibody Test Kit cELISA (VMRD). The seroprevalence in goats was 12/90 (13.3%) by AGID, 59/90 (65.5%) by cELISA and 72/90 (80%) by iELISA; all arthritic goats were positive in at least two serological tests, consistent with SRLV infection. All sheep were seronegative in the AGID, cELISA and iELISA, as well as the Elitest (Hyphen-Biomed), whereas two sheep, including the animal with nervous signs, were positive in the Chekit (IDEXX) (Table 1).
