A rat-sized mammals from the Late Cretaceous of Mongolia, Zalam is best known for its long, narrow snout and long, slender hind limb. Its incisors at the tips of its jaws were long and grew continuously throughout its life-in the same way as a modern rodent is front teeth. A gap separated the front teeth from those further back. The tall, pointed teeth suggest Zalam had a diet of insects and perhaps seeds.
