Task Analysis:
1. Using a piece of paper, draw a vertical line about 4 inches long. Using the stencil created for a straight line (see the materials section), gently guide the student's hand and assist the student in drawing the line. The drawing tool used should be large enough for the student to easily handle.
2. Continue Step 1 until the student needs only gestural assistance and step-by-step verbal prompting. Accuracy in the use of the stencil is not significant. The measured outcome should be some form of mark that is in a somewhat vertical plane.
3. Continue Step 2, removing the stencil and continuing gestural and verbal step-by-step prompting to create a vertical line.
4. Continue Step 3, gradually reducing gestural prompting and continuing to use step-by-step verbal prompting.
5. Continue Step 4, using only total-task verbal requests.
