A flow-through water system was maintained at
approximately 300–350 l/h with gentle aeration provided. Excess
feeds that settled on the tank bottom were siphoned out, dried, and
weighed to get the true value of the feed consumed by the abalone.
Water temperature ranged from 28 to 29 °C and salinity varied from
30 to 31 ppt. Ranges of dissolved oxygen, nitrite, ammonia, and pH in
the rearing tanks were at 5.0–5.5 mg/l, 0–0.05 mg/l, 0–0.30, and
8.2–8.3, respectively. Abalone were fed 2–5% of their body weight
using the dry diets. The daily ration was given once in the late
afternoon (about 1600 h). The experiment lasted for 90 days.
