diameter were drilled into the bottom of the soil tray to allow
drainage of the infiltration water. The bottom of the tray was covered
with a layer of cheesecloth to prevent the soil from leaking through
the holes. Experiments were repeated four times.
In this study, the directional splash loss was expressed as the mass
of sediment splashed by rainfall (g) instead of g m−1 min−1 or g m−2
min−1. This was because the horizontal slope length and width for
different slope angles were all equal to 50 cm. Thus the directional
splash loss was compared directly.
