connection between
climate change and agriculture:
climate change affects
food production and at the same
time, at least 15-25 percent of global
greenhouse gas emissions are linked to
the agriculture sector. The figure is even
higher, around 44-57 percent, if emissions
connected with industrial food processing
and transport are included.1
Expansion of industrial commodity crop
plantations like soy, sugarcane, palm oil,
maize and rapeseed and cattle ranching
for meat production are the dominant
contributors to greenhouse gas emissions
from the agriculture sector. They account
for between 70-90% of global deforestation.
