Sexuality is more than mere genitality. In order to arrive at a more integrated sexuality, Friberg and Laaser (1998) suggested that we should pay attention to and work on the following five areas or dimensions of the human person. Growing in maturity requires that we explore and find answers to a particular aspect within each of these dimensions.
PERSONAL DIMENSION "Who Am I as a Sexual Person?"
In the personal dimension, we need to be comfortable with our sexual identity, sexual orientation, and sexual role assignment. We also need to look at our developmental history and check whether the various developmental stages (see Jeyaraj, Ch. 6, this volume) have been worked through at different times in life or
whether we have got stuck at some particular stage. Dysfunction in any of these areas is an obvious danger signal. It makes a person Vulnerable and susceptible to the influence of other dysfunctional factors. If we have experienced sexual trauma at some stage of our life, it woฟd affect our sense of self and our ability to relate adequately with others. These must be worked through in order to experience health in this dimension.
