The other ingredients were
a hydroalcoholic extract of black cherry (Prunus serotina) bark, that
rendered the food supplement slightly alcoholic, glycerol and mint
essential oil. The product also contained fructose syrup as sweetener.
The total count of bacteria and mycetes present in the food
supplement was determined, and the microbial species able to
survive and grow during storage were identified and quantified by
Quantitative Real-Time PCR (qPCR); finally, the source of the main
contaminants found in the product, i.e. Staphylococcus aureus and
Zygosaccharomyces bailii, was determined.
